From Abandoned to Advocate: Isabella’s Journey of Resilience and Hope

When Isabella was just two days old, she was left outside an orphanage in China. The conditions were harsh. Her future was uncertain. But from that moment forward, her life became a powerful testament to resilience, purpose, and the belief that where we begin doesn’t have to define where we end up.

A Traumatic Start—and a Fighting Spirit

Isabella’s early years were marked by trauma and severe medical challenges. Her abandonment as a newborn left lasting emotional and physical scars. Eventually, she would rely on a wheelchair. But instead of letting her diagnosis define her, Isabella chose to fight. To grow. To lead.

“Although I don’t want anyone to go through what I went through,” she says, “I’m grateful for it. It made me who I am today.”

In 2021, Isabella’s life took a pivotal turn. She discovered Safe Haven Baby Boxes and was immediately moved by their mission. Fueled by her own story and a desire to make sure no baby ever feels unwanted, she launched a petition to bring Baby Boxes to Kentucky.

That action caught the attention of Monica Kelsey, founder of Safe Haven Baby Boxes—and marked the beginning of a powerful connection rooted in shared passion and purpose.

A Conversation That Inspires

Now a college-bound advocate from Louisville, Kentucky, Isabella joins Monica on the latest episode of Beyond the Box to reflect on her journey—from being left behind to becoming a voice for the voiceless.

She shares how her trials have shaped her calling: to become a school teacher and create a safe space for kids who feel unseen. “Even if I can only reach one child,” she says, “that’s enough.”
