CEO & Founder

Monica is the CEO and Founder of Safe Haven Baby Boxes and an Amazon best-selling author. Adopted at birth, Monica later discovered she was conceived in rape and abandoned as an infant—an experience that fuels her passion to advocate for the sanctity of human life. A U.S. Navy veteran and former firefighter/medic, Monica has shared her story across the U.S., Japan, Ecuador, Peru, and South Africa. She is committed to eliminating illegal infant abandonment both nationally and globally.

Co-Founder & Senior Project Coordinator

Joe is a Co-Founder and the Senior Project Coordinator at Safe Haven Baby Boxes. He also serves as Mayor of Woodburn, Indiana, and is a soldier in the Indiana Army National Guard. Joe oversees contracts, manages the production and distribution team, and maintains CRM and website data, including mapping box locations. With extensive knowledge of the baby box program, Joe is a trusted resource for any questions related to the organization.

Assistant Project Coordinator & Training Administrator

Mariah is the Assistant Project Coordinator and Training Administrator at Safe Haven Baby Boxes. She began volunteering before the first baby box was installed in her hometown. Prior to joining SHBB full-time, Mariah worked in the mortgage industry in roles including Customer Service, Case Opening, and Assistant Manager of Disclosures. With over 20 years of experience volunteering for her local fire department, Mariah is comfortable working with first responders. She has been married for over 20 years and has two adult children. Although she once disliked public speaking, her passion for saving babies now drives her to confidently speak at events.

Executive Assistant

Jessi serves as Executive Assistant to Monica Kelsey. She manages bookkeeping, scheduling, training and blessing dates, and speaking engagements, and travels extensively to assist with the activation of new baby boxes across the country. Before joining SHBB, Jessi worked as a cosmetologist for 24 years. She is a proud mother of two grown children, one of whom interned with Safe Haven Baby Boxes. Fun fact: Jessi coached junior high cheerleading for three years. She lives in Antwerp, Ohio.

Bookkeeper

Jennifer serves as the part-time Bookkeeper at Safe Haven Baby Boxes. She brings over 45 years of accounting experience, including more than 15 years as an Office/Accounting Manager for a Consulting/Dietitian firm. Jennifer and her husband, Mark—a salesman and farmer—have been married for 32 years and have three grown sons and a beloved Blue Heeler/Australian Shepherd companion. Originally from Decatur, Indiana, Jennifer now enjoys country living in New Haven and loves reading on her Kindle and helping serve farm meals during planting and harvest seasons.

Contract Specialist

Alexis is a Contract Specialist at Safe Haven Baby Boxes. She has been involved with SHBB since its early days and is currently pursuing a degree in law. Alexis plans to become a criminal prosecuting attorney with a special focus on advocating for children affected by human trafficking. Her passion for justice and commitment to protecting vulnerable populations drive both her academic and professional goals.

Director of Development & Hotline

Pam is the Development Director and Hotline Director at Safe Haven Baby Boxes. She holds a Master's Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Liberty University. Before joining SHBB, Pam served women at Alpha Women’s Center and Community Pregnancy Clinics. For over 25 years, she has spoken to teens and educators about sexual integrity and healthy relationships. Pam lives in Tampa, Florida, and is a proud mother of three grown children and grandmother to two granddaughters. She also serves as the Commissioner of her Fantasy Football league.

Shop Manager

JJ oversees the construction of baby boxes and manages the shop team. His responsibilities include CNC machine operation, inventory management, box testing, equipment maintenance, and collaborating with electrical engineers. JJ travels for box maintenance and repairs and leads builders Kyle and Ben in preparing boxes for shipment and installation. Outside of work, he enjoys attending concerts, spending time outdoors, working on mechanical projects, and being the best father he can be.

Electrical Assembler & Box Builder

Ben serves as an Electrical Assembler and Box Builder at Safe Haven Baby Boxes. He specializes in the electrical wiring of baby boxes, assists with shell construction, deburring, CNC machine operation, and box recertifications and repairs. He also travels across the U.S. for installations and maintenance. Outside of work, Ben enjoys spending time with his kids, working with his hands, and riding his Harley.

Box Builder

Kyle is a Box Builder at Safe Haven Baby Boxes. He constructs baby boxes, assists with electrical installation, deburrs components, and operates CNC machinery as needed. Kyle also travels for box repairs and recertifications across the U.S. He is a father to a three-year-old and enjoys motorcycle riding when the weather is warm. Kyle is from Woodburn, Indiana.

Marketing & Communications Coordinator

Karlie serves as the Marketing and Communications Coordinator at Safe Haven Baby Boxes. She holds a B.S. in Marketing from Concordia University St. Paul and has been with SHBB since 2021. Karlie lives in Iowa with her husband and two young sons, who keep life lively at home. When not working during nap times, she can be found covering her kitchen in flour, testing out a new baking recipe.
